David Harvey
Professor and Geography Theorist

David Harvey is a British geographer who decided to use maps not to find places, but to locate the problems of capitalism. Born in 1935, he began with ‘normal’ urban studies until he realised that the city is, in reality, a stage where capital puts on its show — usually at the expense of the working class.
An avowed Marxist with no patience for neoliberal blah-blah-blah, Harvey has written classics such as The Limits to Capital, mixing geography, economics and social criticism with the elegance of someone who could be sipping tea but prefers to question the system.
A professor at the City University of New York, he became a guru of the global left and even released videos explaining Marx's Capital in a simple way that many pretend is complicated.
